Financial accountants

COMPUTUS provides the full spectrum of professional accounting services within the standards and guidelines of SAIPA (South African Institute of Professional Accountants). In short this involves the establishment of close corporations and trusts, the registration of entities for Income tax and VAT, the complete monthly financial record keeping of enterprises, the compiling of annual financial statements, the submission of tax and VAT returns, the verification of tax assessments, the complying of secretarial responsibilities of close corporations and companies towards CIPRO (Companies and Intellectual property Registration Office) and the execution of administrative responsibilities for trusts.

It is also the policy of COMPUTUS to supply timely and accurate information to its clients. Record keeping is done on a monthly basis while financial statements are delivered within four months of the financial year-end.

SAIPA is a professional body of more than 6 000 professional accountants (excluding students and associates) in practice, commerce and industry, government and academia. The majority of its members are in public practice, offering accountancy and allied services, excluding auditing, to the general public and the business community, especially in the SMME sector.

Membership of SAIPA provides accountancy professionals with local and international recognition, ensures that they remain abreast of the latest local and international developments in the accountancy profession and are able to regularly network with fellow accountancy professionals.

Membership at SAIPA comes together with an array of products and services, which include ongoing training to facilitate the necessary knowledge, competencies and functional skills members need to effectively execute their responsibilities in a manner that complies with local and international regulatory frameworks and standards.

Forensic accountants

Kessler defines forensic accountancy as follows:

"Forensic and investigative accounting is the application of financial skills and an investigative mentality to unresolved issues, conducted within the context of the rules of evidence. As a discipline, it encompasses financial expertise, fraud knowledge, and a strong knowledge and understanding of business reality and the working of the legal system".

In the area of litigation we have specific knowledge of expert witnessing and disputes between farmers and suppliers.

In the area of agriculture we have specific knowledge of estate planning and succession, farm management, machinery management, enterprise analysis, cash flow budgets, agricultural economic comparisons and the interpretation of financial statements.

In the area of corporate governance we have specific knowledge of fraud prevention, forensic investigations and risk assessment.

Agricultural economic services

The essence of the agricultural economic services COMPUTUS provides is the compiling of cash flow budgets and annual production report. Accompanying this is assisting the farmer with advice to interpret the managerial information.

The compiling of the cash flow budget involves:

The calculation of machinery cost
Determining the profitability of enterprises;
Analysing the sensitivity of each enterprise according to price and yield;
The need for production credit for the specified production year.

The production report is compiled from:

The real financial results measured for a production period that suits the type of farming in a region the best;
An analysis of the profitability of each individual enterprise of the individual farmer;
A comparison of the individual farmer’s results with that of a group average, a top third as well as a bottom third of other farmers in the region where he farms;
A comparison of the farmer’s current results with that of previous years.

The provision of advise to clients involves:

Supplying self generated reports with the cash flow budget and production report;
Discussion of the results of the above mentioned reports with the client on his request;
The availability of COMPUTUS specialists for ad hoc consultations at normal rates.
